Leadership Program

A community service of the 



To prepare aspiring community leaders in the Santa Ynez Valley for leadership roles so that they may function effectively as leaders in:

  • Municipal government
  • Public agencies and
  • Not-for-profit community organizations


  • City councils, boards, commissions, public agencies and not-for-profits will be led by leaders who are knowledgeable about our communities and skillful in working with the people with whom they work.
  • Graduates will listen to their constituents and colleagues respectfully, work together to balance priorities, and achieve broad-based support for their decisions and actions.
  • When graduates seek a community leadership role, having completed the Program will be a “feather in their cap.”

  • Duration: Sept.11 – Nov. 13, 2021
  • Meetings: Saturdays, 9 AM-Noon
  • Venue: Solvang Senior Center
  • Learn through:
    • Classes and workshops
    • Readings & assignments
    • Team project participation


  • Residents of the Santa Ynez Valley
  • Aspiring community leaders
  • Committed to active participation
  • In high school or older
  • People who provide diverse views
  • Pay a participation fee of $100

Buellton Wine and Chili Festival

Buellton Wine and Chili Festival is Back! 


This year's event will take place at Riverview Park, just down the street from Flying Flags RV Resort, from 12 - 4:30 p.m. (This will only be a 1-year hiatus away from Flying Flags!)

Your health and safety is our top priority, and we will be operating under the guidelines of the Santa Barbara County Health Dept.

Sample from over 30 wineries, craft breweries and spirit companies! You know we have you covered with over 20 chili and salsa cooks!

Show up hungry and try some chili and salsa made by some of the best local chefs, and restaurants, competing to take home prizes for the best chili and homemade salsa!

Live entertainment by The Dusty Jugs, Vineyard Byrds and DJ FIU!
Lawn games including cornhole and everyones favorite, MEGA SIZED beer pong!

Tickets include all alcohol for guests over 21. The chili and salsa sampling is for everyone joining us!

Hot Chili Ticket (General Admission for 21+) - $55
The Hot Chili Ticket includes a souvenir wine glass, unlimited wine and chili tasting, live entertainment and more for guests 21 and over! Craft breweries and spirit companies will also be on site, and are included with your General Admission ticket purchase!

Mild Chili Ticket (Guests Under 21) - $20
The Mild Chili Ticket includes unlimited samples of chili and salsa BUT NO ALCOHOL CONSUMPTION. This ticket is for guests who are 20 and under.

Food from the food trucks can be purchased on site.

Looking for safe transportation to the Buellton Wine and Chili Festival? Jump on the Brew Bus can give you a ride to and from the event!

SY River Basin EMA Draft Groundwater Sustainability Plan - Public Comment Deadline

A public draft of the Santa Ynez River Valley Groundwater Basin - Eastern Management Area Groundwater Sustainability Plan was recently released.  The report contains information on Basin Conditions and on future Sustainability Goals and Objectives. The community has the opportunity to review and comment on the Groundwater Sustainability Plan. The public comment period ends on October 24th, 2021. If you would like to comment, make sure to do so by this date.

Celebrate National Drive Electric Week

Celebrate National Drive Electric Week from Saturday, September 25, to Sunday, October 3! You can attend electric vehicle (EV) showcases, test-drive events, and an EV 101 webinar to learn the fundamentals of purchasing and driving an EV.
All events are FREE. Anyone curious about EVs is encouraged to attend. Current EV drivers are encouraged to sign up for local in-person events to showcase their EV and share their experience with the community.

Goleta Farmers Market- Sun, September 26 from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm.
Community Environmental Council (CEC) will host an EV Showcase at the Goleta Farmer’s Market on Sunday, September 26, 2021. Visit their booth in the main market to learn more about how CEC can help you get into an EV. Visit their EV Showcase in the main parking lot, where CEC staff and volunteer community members will have their EVs on display and ready to share their EV experience with you!
